Bo Fundamentals

In most fundamentals, each technique has two stances, if this is the case both will be indicated.

Thus when going forward you would typically do an even number of techniques. 
You can do each technique any number of times, space permitting of course!

F - go forward
B - go backward
  1. F - Punch
    Step left foot forward into crane stance, punch,
    step right foot forward into straddle stance, punch.

  2. B - Circle block
    Step right foot back into crane stance, circle block,
    step left foot back into straddle stance, circle block.

  3. F - Thrust
    Step left foot forward into crane stance, thrust,
    step right foot forward into long forward stance, thrust.

  4. B - Tai-sabaki block
    Step left foot back on 45 degrees, turn right hand over on Bo, slide right foot back into neko-ashi-dachi, sharp down strike, left hand stays on hip, don't let bo go much past horizontal.

  5. F - Leg strike (Bo under arm)
    Step left foot forward into short forward stance, left leg strike (swing Bo anti-clockwise),
    step right foot forward into short forward stance, right leg strike (swing Bo clockwise).

  6. B - Leg block (Bo outside arm)
    Step right foot back into short forward stance, right leg block (swing Bo anti-clockwise),
    step left foot back into short forward stance, left leg block (swing Bo clockwise).

  7. F - Middle strike
    Step left foot forward into short forward stance, left middle strike,
    step right foot forward into short forward stance, right middle strike.

  8. B - Quick vertical block
    Step right foot back into short forward stance, right quick vertical block,
    step left foot back into short forward stance, left quick vertical block

  9. F - Head strike
    Step left foot forward into short forward stance, left head strike (swing Bo anti-clockwise),
    step right foot forward into short forward stance, right head strike (swing Bo clockwise).

  10. B - Head block
    Step left foot back into short forward stance, right head block (swing Bo anti-clockwise),
    step right foot back into short forward stance, left head block (swing Bo clockwise).

    Advanced Fundamentals
    Power strikes : the first one is a normal strike, on the rest you change hands.

  11. F - Power leg strike
    Step left foot forward into short forward stance, left leg strike (swing Bo anti-clockwise).

    Step right foot forward into short forward stance, right power leg strike (change hands, swing Bo clockwise),

    step left foot forward into short forward stance, left power leg strike (change hands, swing Bo anti-clockwise).

  12. B - Leg block
    Step right foot back into short forward stance, right leg block (swing Bo anti-clockwise),
    step left foot back into short forward stance, left leg block (swing Bo clockwise).

  13. F - Groin strike (Bo on left side)
    Step left foot next to right foot, groin strike.
    step right foot forward into short forward stance,  step left foot next to right foot, groin strike.

  14. B - Up/down block (groin block)
    Shuffle left foot back into long forward stance, Bo comes horizontal, pushes up,
    Slide right foot back into short forward stance with right foot forward, groin block down (Bo makes C shape towards you and pushes out).

  15. F - Middle strike
    Step left foot forward into short forward stance, left middle strike,
    step right foot forward into short forward stance, right middle strike

  16. B - Power vertical block
    Step right foot back into short forward stance, right quick vertical block.
    Step left foot back into short forward stance, left power vertical block (change hands),
    step right foot back into short forward stance, right power vertical block (change hands).

  17. F- Top head strike (Bo on right side)
    Step left foot next to right foot, top head strike.
    Step right foot forward into short forward stance,  step left foot next to right foot, top head strike.

  18. B - Down/up block (top head block)
    Shuffle left foot back into long forward stance, Bo comes horizontal, pushes down,
    slide right foot back into short forward stance with right foot forward, head block down (Bo makes C shape away from you and pushes out).

  19. F - Power head strike
    Step left foot forward into short forward stance, left head strike (swing Bo anti-clockwise).
    Step right foot forward into short forward stance, right power head strike (change hands, swing Bo clockwise),
    step left foot forward into short forward stance, left power head strike (change hands, swing Bo anti-clockwise).

  20. B - Head block
    Step right foot back into short forward stance, right head block (swing Bo clockwise),
    step left foot back into short forward stance, left head block (swing Bo anti-clockwise).

  21. F - Hand strike
    Shuffle right foot forward into short forward stance, hand strike,

  22. B - Deflection
    Shuffle back, deflection circle block,

Bo partner basics

This set of moves teaches the students to foot work, moving hands on the Bo, distancing and timing.

Attacker starts off left foot back. Attacker changes feet and hands on the Bo every move.

Defender starts off right foot back. Defender changes feet and hands on the Bo every move, unless otherwise specified.

Attacker MUST announce BEFORE the start of each attack.
  1. A - Top head strike, slide off to the right (Step forward on first one)
    D - Top head block block, angle Bo to left (Step back on first one) (Block with back hand open)

    A - Top head strike, slide off to the left 
    D - Top head block block, angle Bo to right (Block with back hand open)

  2. A - Left Side head strike
    D - Right Side head block (do not change legs on the first block)

    A - Right Side head strike
    D - Left Side head block

  3. A - Left Middle strike
    D - Right Middle block (do not change hands on the first block)

    A - Right Middle strike
    D - Left Middle block (change hands on the second block)

  4. A - Left Leg Strike
    D - Right Leg block (change hands on the first block)

    A - Right Leg Strike
    D - Left Leg block (do not change hands on the second block)

  5. A - Sumo stance, Punch
    D - Sumo stance, circle block

    A - Sumo stance, Punch
    D - Sumo stance, circle block

  6. A - Thrust
    D - Sumo stance, circle block, followed by a forward stance thrust behind the head.

    A - Thrust
    D - Sumo stance, circle block, followed by a forward stance thrust behind the head - KIA.

To practice this on your own do all the attack moves, then do all the defense moves.

Attack 
Start off with left foot back. Announce on every move.
  1. A - Top head strike, slide off to the right (Step forward on first one)
