Kobudo‎ > ‎

The Kobudo Fundamentals are generally drawn from the techniques within Kata and just like Karate, these Fundamental exercises are one of the corners of the triangle of kobudo.

It is vitally important that Kobudo-ka practice ALL the Fundamentals for each weapon diligently and frequently as only a good understanding and execution of these 'Fundamentals' will lead to improvement in the understanding and execution of the Kata.

Progression in Kobudo is to learn and grade on one weapon, then to move onto the next weapon.  Once all the weapons have been fully mastered, it is natural for a Kobudo-ka to possibly have a favourite weapon or weapons.

However it is important, particularly as a mudansha (kyu-grade),  not to ignore the Fundamentals and Kata of any previously learned weapon.
