Wansu

Japanese : 汪楫
English : Dumping form. Wansu was a Chinese traveller.



Origin : Shorin-Ryu
History : It combines moves from the first three kata. The karate-ka is taught to fight opponents forward, backward, and on both sides.

  1. Bow

    (north)
    After last bow with hand in front of groin
  2. Step right foot to right 1 1/2 shoulder widths into wide heiko-dachi,
    yama-uke, left hand wrapped around closed right fist.

    (north-west)
  3. Look 45 degrees to left (north-west), (following are on 45 degrees to left)
    left hand gedan-barai,
    right hand gyaku-tsuki, 
    keep square to front.

  4. Left foot steps forward into seisan-dachi,
    left hand blocks gedan-barai,
    right hand chudan gyaku-tsuki.

  5. Step right foot forward into seisan-dachi,
    right hand hiki-uke,
    right hand taps across face, comes to palm facing left ear,
    left hand palm up nukite-tsuki.

    (west) 
  6. Right hand prepares on right hip, left hand stays out,
    stay square to front.
    Left foot steps, to right into right foot tsuru-no-iwa-dachi,
    left hand closes,
    swivel 90 degrees to left (west) into right foot forward seisan-dachi,
    punch right hand chudan kizami-tsuki to front leave punch out
    pull left hand to left hip.
    keep looking to front, but square to west.

  7. Swivel 90 degrees to left into left foot forward seisan-dachi to face south,
    [feet should not have to reposition much]
    left hand blocks gedan-barai,
    right hand chudan gyaku-tsuki.

  8. Step right foot forward into seisan-dachi,
    right hand hiki-uke,
    right hand taps across face, comes to palm facing left ear,
    left hand palm up nukite-tsuki.

  9. Right hand prepares on right hip, left hand stays out,
    stay square to front.
    Left foot steps, to right into right foot tsuru-no-iwa-dachi,
    left hand closes,
    swivel 90 degrees to left (east) into right foot forward seisan-dachi,
    punch right hand chudan kizami-tsuki to front leave punch out
    pull left hand to left hip.
    keep looking to front, but square to east.

  10. Swivel 90 degrees to left into left foot forward seisan-dachi to face north,
    [feet should not have to reposition much]
    left hand blocks jodan tegata-barai,
    right hand jodan gyaku-tsuki, left hand holds right forearm near elbow.
  11. Right foot mae-geri, land right foot forward into seisan-dachi,
    right hand gedan-barai, left hand jodan age-uke (with palm forward, fist closed).
  12. Left hand opens, palm still forward,
    right hand opens and comes horizontal, fingers point down, palm forward. Right foot slides back a little.
    Right foot slides forward into shiko-dachi, feet inline.

  13. Swivel 180 degrees to left, on left foot,
    right hand around in an anti-clockwise circle (dumping motion), 
    land in shiko-dachi, right palm facing down, fingers pointing to left (north),
    left hand on left hip.

  14. Right hand returns to hip, left hand prepares vertical on top of right hand at right hip,
    left foot step back half a shoulder width,
    swivel 90 degrees left, into left foot forward seisan-dachi,

    (west)
  15. Step left foot back into right foot forward seisan-dachi,
    swivel 90 degrees left, into left foot forward seisan-dachi,
    left hand hiki-uke,
    right leg hiza-geri, foot back,
    right hand chudan gyaku-tsuki.

  16. Right hand prepares vertical on top of left hand at left hip,
    swivel 90 degrees right, into right foot forward seisan-dachi,

    (east) 
  17. Step right foot back into left foot forward seisan-dachi,
    swivel 90 degrees right, into right foot forward seisan-dachi,
    right hand hiki-uke,
    left leg hiza-geri, foot back,
    left hand chudan gyaku-tsuki.

  18. Right foot slides back to left foot into heisoku-dachi, swivel 90 degrees to north,
    hands prepare on hips.

  19. Right foot steps out 45 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi,
    left hand chudan gyaku-tsuki to front,
    right hand chudan oi-tsuki to front
    (punches are at a slight angle).

  20. Left foot slides up to right foot into heisoku-dachi, face north (square),
    hands prepare on hips.

  21. Left foot steps out 45 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi,
    right hand chudan gyaku-tsuki to front,
    left hand chudan oi-tsuki to front
    (punches are at a slight angle).

  22. Right foot slides up to left foot into heisoku-dachi, steps out to right into heiko-dachi,
    left hand moves to left, flows to left hand prepares vertical on top of right hand at right hip,
    left foot slides to right foot into heisoku-dachi,
    left foot yoko-geri to left (west), hands stay on hip.
    [this is a continuous flowing move].

    before left foot lands....

  23. Left foot steps out to left, into heiko-dachi,
    hands move to left hip, right hand prepares vertical on top of left hand at left hip,
    right foot slides to left foot into heisoku-dachi,
    right foot yoko-geri to right (east), hands stay on hip.
    [this is a continuous flowing move].
    right foot lands next to left foot into heisoku-dachi.

  24. Left foot steps forward into kokutsu-dachi,
    right hand opens, moves down in a circular anti-clockwise motion, comes around, taps chudan, stops palm facing left,
    left hand opens, back of hand blocks across groin, hand comes up stops in center, palm facing right, elbow bent 45 degrees, fingers straight, right hand pulls back, thumb on sternum, fingers pointing up,
    [this is a continuous flowing circular move.]

  25. Right hand pulls back to right hip, left follows towards hip, step right forward into zenkutsu-dachi,
    right mawashi empi-uchi, left hand on left hip.

  26. Right foot steps left to be inline with left foot,
    right hand returns to hip, left hand prepares vertical on top of right hand at right hip. 
    swivel 180 degrees to left to face south,
    left foot slides back into neko ashi-dachi.
  27. Left leg hiza-uke, don't put foot down, left foot mae-geri.
    left foot steps down and forward....

  28. Swivel 180 degrees to right to face north,
    left hand returns to hip, right hand prepares vertical on top of left hand at left hip,
    right foot slides back into neko ashi-dachi.
  29. Right leg hiza-uke, don't put foot down, right foot mae-geri.
    keep foot up....
     
  30. Hands open, come forward in front of stomach, elbows bent 45 degrees,
    right hand over left, palms down, fingers straight,
    left hand points to 45 degrees right,
    right hand points to 45 degrees left,
    right foot steps down into seisan-dachi...
  31. Both hands strike chudan shuto-uchi to the sides, slight bend in elbows [strikes stop before they reach 90 degrees to the side]

  32. Left hand taps chudan,
    back of right hand blocks across groin, hand comes up stops in center, palm facing left, elbow bent 45 degrees, fingers straight,
    left hand comes back to left hip fingers pointing forward,
    [this is a continuous flowing circular move.]
